ABOUT THE HOUSE OF RASTAFARI

The Beginning

The House of Rastafari an Inter-mansion Steering committee was formed following the 7 days reasoning/ Inter-mansion conference held October 2012. The committee sought to address issues pertaining to Rastafari needs and goals, as it relates to solidarity and collective security. It was born out of the need to have the Bahamian population at large have a deeper understanding of who we are and what we represent. It is also felt that through this medium, the Rastafari community can better achieve its goals of the development, and advancement of its people; African (black) people specifically and the world generally.

At the onset meetings were geared around establishing the organizations name and structure. By majority vote it was decided the committee would be called ‘House of Rastafari’. It was decided that the Inter-mansion would consist of various branches or facets in the form of Houses, and Committees. Its organizational structure would evolve based on its needs as they arose. The facets are the Human Rights, Land, Public Relations, and Newsletter Committees, the Non-Aligned, African Sisters for All Women (A.S.F.A.W.), His Majesty Theocracy Reign Order of The Nyahbinghi, Hebrew, the Ethiopia Africa Black International Congress, and the Rastafari Development Union (RDU). The original Executive Officers were Chairman: Priest Blyden, Co-Chairman: Bongo Ian, Secretary: Jah Doctrine, Treasurer: Jah Benji, Sergeant at Arms: Field Marshall, Public Relations Chairman: Ras Jamal, Newsletter Committee Chairman: Daniel Cinque, Land Committee Chairman: James Rolle. African Sisters for All Women A.S.F.A.W. A women’s committee was also formed following the historic October 2012 Inter-mansion conference. The committee decided upon the name African Sisters for All Women. Their initial focus was on securing a school for the youth of the Rastafari community.
